What a fun way to celebrate our 35th anniversary!! We drove over to Lexington, Va on Friday to spend the night and enjoy Joe's old stomping grounds where he spent 5 years of his life at W&L. The place where the ACTHA ride took place today is a beautiful working ranch with cattle, pigs and chickens - hundreds of acres of woods, hills, creeks and beautiful views. We all had a great time riding with friends and doing our best at the 6 obstacles we found on the 6 miles of trails. Joe helped by being one of the timekeepers at an obstacle. They all had a Halloween theme which made it a lot of fun! Riders of all ages, genders and experiences participate. I don't use the word "compete" because everyone tries to be helpful, friendly and inclusive- not found at most competitions! Legacy and I placed 2nd out of 20+ riders in our division! Two others of my friends placed also. After a wonderful beef chili lunch , prizes and awards were given out. A good time was had by all. Joe and I are enjoying another night here and had a wonderful dinner at a lovely cafe . Of course, we have to watch the World Series tonight! Tomorrow we had planned to do some fishing at his favorite spots, but the storm ( Sandy) may chase us home!
